A lactation consultant is a healthcare professional specialised in providing support and guidance to breastfeeding mothers. They help with a range of issues, such as latching difficulties, milk supply concerns, and managing breastfeeding pain. Their goal is to promote successful breastfeeding and ensure both the mother and baby are healthy and comfortable.

Antenatal Lactation Consults.
Learn the basics of breastfeeding.
Understand the basic anatomy and physiology of breastfeeding, get to know your boobs and what to expect in the first few weeks of becoming a mum. Learn how you can support your newborn to feed whilst maintaining and protecting their biology and natural instincts. Learn about positioning and attachment, what a “good” latch may look like and how to achieve effective, pain free feeds. Together we will look at how we can help nurture your mind, body and baby during postpartum whilst navigating the beginning of your breastfeeding career! We will also go through alternative ways of feeding and pumping so that you are prepared for a range of pathways on your breastfeeding journey.

Postnatal Lactation Consults.
Postnatal consults are available to all mums looking for a little support and encouragement as they navigate breastfeeding and their postpartum journey. These consults are particularly useful for mums who have concerns around their breastfeeding journey and need support and guidance to help them to navigate through it. As an IBCLC, Melissa takes a holistic approach to understanding each individual mother-baby dyad. Concerns that may require support include:
- Nipple pain and damage
- Difficulty with baby latching- attachment and positioning concerns
- Tongue and oral tie assessments
- Supply concerns-under or over
- Engorgement, clogged ducts and Mastitis
- Thrush concerns
- Navigating triple feeding and creating a plan moving forward.
- Demand feeding
- Navigating reflux
- Fussiness at the breast or breast refusal/aversion
- Infant weight loss concerns
- Weaning
